The Oakland Athletics are still determined to relocate before the end of the decade.
Despite breaking thousands of hearts in Oakland and numerous public petitions not to move out of the city, owner John Fisher is still eager to take the team to Las Vegas.
That plan has hit some bumps in the road, though.
First, there were problems with the funding of the new stadium.
Then, owners had to approve the relocation, amid the opposition in many circles.
The plans to build the new stadium in Las Vegas are in place, but it won’t be ready before 2028.
As a result, the A’s, whose lease in the Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season, were planning to bounce around several locations until the Las Vegas stadium was complete.
Those plans have been dismissed, though.
“The A’s plan to move to Sacramento for the 2025-27 seasons, with an option to play there in 2028 as well, the team announced. They will play in Sutter Health Park — just over 10,000 seats, with grass outfield seats to increase capacity to 14,000 — for at least three seasons,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.

For a span of three seasons (possibly four), the A’s will play their home games in Sacramento.
Per Passan: “The option year for the A’s moving from Oakland to Sacramento gives the team flexibility if its stadium in Las Vegas is not complete.”

By the look of things, there is a good chance the A’s stay in Sacramento for four seasons.
That would give them ample time to have the stadium ready in 2029 and start a new era, one that many fans are unhappy with.
