The Buffalo Bills and Stefon Diggs have finally parted ways.
The team reportedly allowed the four-time Pro Bowler to seek a trade to any team except for the Kansas City Chiefs, which is far from a surprise, all things considered.
This will be a fresh start for a disgruntled and often misunderstood star, and he’s going to take it as such.
That’s why he’s going back to basics, and he’ll switch back to his No. 1 jersey from his days in college.
However, the Maryland product had to pay up to get that number, as safety Jimmie Ward had it.
According to a report by Aaron Wilson (via Dov Kleiman), Diggs gave him $100,000 for his trouble.

This isn’t unusual at all.
NFL players often hold emotional attachments to their jersey numbers.
This is symbolic and may not have an actual impact on what they do or don’t do on the field, but it can certainly boost a player’s confidence.
Diggs has never lacked that trait, as he’s sometimes confident to a fault, but he can use as much help as he can get at this point in his career.
The Houston Texans restructured his deal so he could become a free agent after this season, meaning he’s going to have to prove himself at a time when some people believe he no longer has it.
Put that way, and considering his steep salary, $100,000 for a new number is pretty much pocket change.
