Today’s NFL is all about offensive highlights, big plays, and scoring.
This is a quarterback’s league now more than ever, and the new rules will only make that all the more evident.
Then again, it seems like defense is a lost art nowadays.
Not so long ago, that wasn’t the case.
Recently, legendary WR Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson tipped his hat to Darrelle Revis, revealing on Jalen Brunson’s and Josh Hart’s Roommates podcast that he was the only player who was able to legitimately shut him down (via NY Jets Fans Only).
Johnson stated that regardless of the numbers, the accolades, or whatnot, his 2009 season was perhaps the single-greatest season by a defensive back in league history, as he shut down greats of the game such as himself, Calvin Johnson, Terrell Owens, Steve Smith Sr., and more.
“His 2009 season should go down in history as the best season of all-time for any DB.” – @ochocinco on @Revis24

Some younger fans tend to forget just how dominant of a stopper Revis was.
That Revis Island motto made plenty of sense, as opposing wideouts were pretty much wandering around and fighting for their lives when they had to go against the New York Jets legend.
Of course, we won’t go as far as to say that the game was better back in the day; everybody has an opinion of their own on that matter.
But it was definitely fun to watch players like Revis do their thing on defense.
