One of the most intriguing quarterbacks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft is J.J. McCarthy, out of the University of Michigan, who was a player at one point who wasn’t considered to be among the best quarterbacks coming out of the college game this year.
However, over the past month or so, McCarthy has seemingly gotten more buzz and praise than any other quarterback in this draft class and, as a result, has skyrocketed up the draft boards of all the experts.
Even though his former Wolverines head coach, Jim Harbaugh, who is the new Los Angeles Chargers head coach, believes that McCarthy will be the first quarterback taken in the draft, there’s zero chance of that happening, with the Chicago Bears likely not passing on the opportunity to draft USC superstar Caleb Williams.
Despite almost certainly not going No. 1 to Chicago, McCarthy is in the conversation to go No. 2 to the Washington Commanders, jumping ahead of Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels.
One thing McCarthy has going for him is the ability to say all the right things, via NFL Network.
“I’m all about winning football games,” McCarthy said. “I’m the ultimate teammate.”

At this point in time, there’s no telling what the Commanders will do at No. 2, as the struggling franchise could go with Maye as most have predicted they will, but McCarthy could play draft spoiler and be taken before Maye and/or Daniels.
Needless to say, there’s a lot of intrigue at the top of the draft, with the quarterbacks dominating the conversation once again.
