When did Tom Brady know that he would leave New England in pursuit of another opportunity?
According to friend and former teammate Julian Edelman, Brady foreshadowed his move for years before leaving the Patriots.
“The Rush” Podcast posted a clip on Twitter, showing Edelman discussing how Brady joked many times about leaving New England before jumping ship with the Buccaneers.
“He would joke around about leaving with me for like four years… and then he left… he hit me up when he left and he goes ‘Hey Babe do you want me to get you down here?’ and I’m like ‘Nah, I’m good bro, I’m a one team man, “ Edelman said.

In the clip, Edelman said the two would joke often about the subject, but the former wide receiver never believed Brady would actually make the move.
Edelman added that Brady reached out to him after signing with Tampa Bay, inquiring if the veteran wanted to join forces again in a Buccaneers’ uniform.
To his credit, Edelman told Brady he would pass up the opportunity as he desired to be with New England.
The hosts of the show praised Edelman for his loyalty to the Patriots, a feat that few players accomplish in today’s NFL.
Brady spent three seasons in Tampa Bay, leading the franchise to a Super Bowl.
The quarterback spent 20 years in New England, leading the franchise to nine Super Bowl appearances during those two decades.
Brady retired following the 2022 season, ending his career with most NFL quarterback records in hand.
Edelman retired from the Patriots in 2021 due to persistent injuries.
In 137 career games, Edelman recorded 620 receptions for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns.
