The Las Vegas Raiders will enter the 2024 NFL season with a renewed sense of optimism as head coach Antonio Pierce has proven he can lead the team effectively.
Pierce earned the job after posting a 5-4 record as the team’s interim head coach in 2023 and will look to build on that momentum next season.
However, one piece of the puzzle that remains is the quarterback positon, where either Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell will earn the starting job.
While Minshew appears to be the early favorite, he’s nothing more than a bridge quarterback which means that Las Vegas will need to find a long-term solution.
The most likely place they’ll look is the 2024 NFL Draft, as there are several quarterback prospects worth gambling on.
Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. is a rising name among analysts and Jordan Reid believes the Raiders should take a long look at trading up for him, via his personal Twitter account.
“Agree. Taking a tackle at 13 to pair with Kolton Miller and then trading back up for Penix makes a lot of sense for the Raiders,” Reid said.

Penix’s injury history is concerning, but there’s no denying that he’s got great arm talent and leadership ability.
He is projected to go anywhere between the middle of the first round and early on Day 2 in the second round.
A talented deep passer, it’s easy to imagine Penix’s fit in Las Vegas, though they might need to consider taking him with their No. 13 overall pick if he continues to rise up draft boards.
