First-year New England head coach Jerod Mayo is bringing in a friendly face to start his tenure with the Patriots.
With New England set to draft a quarterback this season, Mayo believes a veteran presence will help the team in the short term while the future starter learns from an experienced hand.
The Sports Fellow posted on Twitter that Mayo is willing to lean on veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to help bridge that gap between their present and their future.

Brissett is an insurance package as Mayo acknowledged that the future Patriots quarterback drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft may not be ready to start in Week 1.
Mayo also is going to look to Brissett to be a veteran presence to the rookie, mentoring the player both on the field and in the locker room.
New England offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt also has a connection with Brissett, making the eight-year veteran quarterback one of the best choices to guide both the Patriots offense and its appointed future quarterback.
Mayo believes that Brissett will embrace the role, becoming a great teacher for the soon-to-be-drafted quarterback.
The Patriots own the No. 3 draft selection in this year’s draft as New England is expected to draft a quarterback in a class filled with them.
New England finished last in the AFC East last season with a 4-13 record, prompting the team to move on from their legendary coach Bill Belichick.
Former 2021 first-round draft pick quarterback Mac Jones was traded after the season, opening up the void that the Patriots are addressing in the draft.
