University of North Carolina head coach Mack Brown is a big fan of his former quarterback Drake Maye.
On Monday, SiriusXM NFL Radio shared an audio clip of Brown’s exuberant praise of Maye on Twitter.
“His upside is so good that somebody going is to get really, really lucky to have him,” Brown said of Maye.

Brown’s strong endorsement of Maye comes at an opportune time for the NFL prospect with the draft’s opening round kicking off in 17 days.
The veteran college football coach also predicted that Maye would have a long NFL career, noting his size, athletic ability, and quick release as some of the reasons his skill set will transition well to the next level.
Brown also described Maye as an unselfish individual, adding how positively the quarterback responded to UNC’s decision to lean on the running attack in 2023 instead of relying solely on his arm.
The quarterback was a leader who used his fame to enrich others as Brown noted that Maye’s NIL deals involved other players on the team.
Brown noted that the entire Maye family was athletically blessed, forcing Drake to be constantly compared to other family members’ successes.
Maye’s only knock that Brown acknowledged was the lack of experience he possesses as the former UNC athlete played just two full seasons of college football.
Maye finished last season with 3,608 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.
The mobile Maye also rushed for 449 yards and nine scores, averaging over nine carries per contest.
