The Minnesota Vikings lost way more than just one game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
Justin Jefferson suffered a hamstring injury and was placed on the Injured Reserve (IR) list.
Jefferson will now be required to miss at least the next four games.
They already sit on a 1-4 record, and things won’t get easier down the stretch.
That’s why ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes that Jefferson could miss even more time, as his team’s chances of making the playoffs or even competing in their division are pretty close to none.
He has no incentive to rush his way back to the field for a lost season, especially considering the fact that he didn’t land the huge contract extension he was reportedly looking for, even despite being the best player on the team.
Here’s the other unspoken issue that could potentially lengthen Justin Jefferson’s absence: if the Vikings don’t win games and stay competitive, what is Jefferson’s incentive to rush back when he did not land the contract he wanted? His absence could last longer than expected.

Jefferson could be back as soon as Week 10 but the Vikings have a BYE week in Week 13, so he could look to push his return date even further if the Vikings continue to struggle and lose games.
The team could also look to move on from QB Kirk Cousins, whose contract will expire at the end of the season.
As for Jefferson’s fantasy football managers, that’s just the way things go in this business, and better luck next season.
