One of the most talked about quarterbacks heading into the 2024 NFL Draft has been Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina, who is in strong contention to be taken No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders, who are looking for a franchise quarterback in this draft.
Although Maye didn’t play for a college football heavyweight like Caleb Williams at the USC or reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels at LSU, the 21-year-old showed enough with the Tar Heels to prove that he could be a star in the NFL.
However, not everyone has been sold on Maye and whether he can be a franchise quarterback on the NFL level, with Merril Hoge recently saying he’d get a coach fired on the next level.
Former NFL quarterback turned analyst Robert Griffin III begs to differ as he believes that Maye has all the tools to be successful on the professional level.
Merril Hoge thinks Drake Maye will get a coach fired and I couldn’t disagree more.

Obviously, Maye being a success on the NFL level or a draft bust won’t be known for quite some time, but he’ll likely have a chance to showcase his skills next season if he lands with the Commanders or falls to the New England Patriots at No. 3.
Washington and New England brought in stopgap veteran quarterbacks while having the intention of drafting a rookie at the position, with Maye and Daniels likely headed to these two teams.
Only time will tell if Hoge is correct or if Griffin had the edge in this debate.
