The Dallas Cowboys have been great at making money but not so much at winning football games, at least meaningful ones.
Jerry Jones has been calling all the shots for quite a while now, and while he might be a great businessman, he might not be the best when it comes to negotiating contracts.
Over and over, Jones has delayed contractual decisions with his star players for whatever reason.
Then, he ends up paying way more than he would’ve paid them at first, and that never-ending cycle has put his team in a conundrum.
That’s why Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk recently called them out, stating that the Cowboys have a ‘contract mess’ on their hands right now:
“They have contractual messes with three of their key players: quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. And they’ve shown no inclination to do anything other than delay, delay, and delay,” wrote Florio.
The Cowboys have a contract mess with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons — and it traces to the team’s failure to financially reward great young players sooner than later. https://t.co/8wWxTFvwsS

He pointed at the fact that CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, and Micah Parsons are all slated to make a lot of money, and Jones’ M.O. of delaying those talks has always backfired.
Truth be told, this is what happens when you have no accountability.
Any GM would’ve been fired from his job years ago, but you cannot fire yourself if you’re also the team owner.
Jones is an eccentric figure and the kind of person who loves being ahead of the news cycle, constantly playing mind games with his players to try and get some leverage.
Unfortunately for him, he never succeeds, and he ends up either losing his players in free agency or having to spend more money than he would’ve had to if he had done things like every other team does.
