The Baltimore Orioles have made it official: they have called up top prospect Jackson Holliday to start his MLB journey on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox.
10 games and a 1.077 OPS in Triple-A were enough to convince the O’s that Holliday is ready for the next step.
Expectations are sky-high, but Holliday is talented enough to meet them and help Baltimore return to the World Series.
Manager Brandon Hyde has revealed the first lineup of the Holliday era.
He still isn’t a top-of-the-lineup fixture, but might get there eventually with a combination of factors.
For now, he is hitting ninth.
“Big day for Birdland. Presenting today’s @Orioles starting lineup, featuring No. 1 MLB prospect Jackson Holliday,” FOX Sports: MLB tweeted.

Holliday is probably better than some of those names already, but seniority likely played a role in his first lineup slot.
He will be playing second base, as team star and leadoff hitter Gunnar Henderson is firmly entrenched as a shortstop.
That will probably be Holliday’s position for the time being, even though he is a natural shortstop.
He has the physical tools to do a good job at the keystone, though.
Holliday has the potential to be a .300 hitter with 25 homers per season and a nice OBP when he fully matures.
Between 2023 and 2024, Holliday has hit .300 or better at just about every minor league stop, including a .333 mark in the 10 games he played so far in 2024.
The entire baseball world will be paying attention on Wednesday, eager to watch a generational talent take his first few steps in the majors.
