The Houston Texans had a surprisingly great 2023 season, going 10-7 and winning the AFC South before winning their first playoff game in five years behind Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.
It has been a notable offseason for the team as well after trading for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs and signing one big-name defender who Texans legend J.J. Watt is a big fan of.
Watt went on “The Pat McAfee Show” today and spoke highly of the Texans’ biggest defensive signing in free agency, saying: “I’m a massive Danielle Hunter fan and I think he’s been very underrated for a long time.”

He added, “The additions the Texans have made are very impressive” and “I think he’s just been very consistent, he plays extremely well in both the pass and the run, so to see him in addition to Will Anderson in DeMeco Ryans’ defense, I can’t wait to watch that happen.”
Houston is set up for long-term success after a few great offseasons, to which McAfee, a former All-Pro punter with the Indianapolis Colts, said: “I hate it!”
Hunter posted a career-high 16.5 sacks last season and has 87.5 in his career over eight seasons, not including the 2020 season that he missed with a neck injury.
Houston gave Hunter a 2-year, $49 million deal this offseason to play opposite Will Anderson Jr. and hopefully pass on some of his expertise to the young budding star.
