You can make a case that the Baltimore Orioles have more qualified hitters and prospects than spots in the lineup.
Of course, in the ever-competitive MLB, that’s a fantastic problem to have: it means the organization has developed enviable depth at key positions.
That depth was exactly the reason why Colton Cowser, one of the best prospects on the team, couldn’t really play much in the majors last year or to start the current campaign.
He was blocked by Austin Hays, but the veteran is struggling badly at the moment and Cowser got a chance to play semi-regularly.
It’s fair to say the 2021 first-round draft pick has earned even more at-bats with his performances against the Boston Red Sox.
“The @Orioles‘ Colton Cowser in the series at Fenway: 10 RBI, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 1 walk, 1 stolen base. No other MLB player has put up all of those numbers in a 3-game series (since RBI became an official stat in 1920),” OptaSTATS tweeted.

It was a three-game series, yet Cowser managed to make history with some fantastic numbers.
The five extra-base hits and the 10 RBI were particularly impressive.
Just when you thought the O’s couldn’t add more weapons to their lineup, they go ahead and call up Jackson Holliday and give Cowser more opportunities.
This is a special organization, and Cowser is a special hitter.
For the season, he is currently at .458/.462/.917 with five doubles, two homers, and a 1.378 OPS.
It’s fair to say he has earned more chances, and he has the talent to run away with the job.
