Iowa Cornerback prospect Cooper DeJean has seen his name floated as a first-round prospect for months leading up to the NFL Draft, and he did his best to solidify that status with an impressive Pro Day workout recently.
Even after the noteworthy performance at his Pro Day, DeJean didn’t alleviate all the concerns some teams might have, with one notable analyst sharing insight into what teams are concerned about.
Analyst Greg Cosell appeared on the Ross Tucker Podcast and said about DeJean, “I think a lot of teams see him as a safety…he’s a little stiff…he struggles a bit.”

Cosell added that even when DeJean plays press he struggles with being a little too stiff, adding “Some might even see him as a big nickel safety, some may see him as a star playing in the slot.”
He praised DeJean for being competitive and physical but that the stiffness still sticks out even though he tests well.
At DeJean’s Pro Day, he ran a 4.45 40-yard dash, posted a 38.5-inch vertical leap, and put up a 10’4″ broad jump.
Over his last two years at Iowa, DeJean had 13 pass deflections and seven interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns in 2022.
DeJean also shined as a punt returner in 2023, averaging around 11 yards per return with one touchdown.
The Iowa prospect has firmly entrenched himself as a possible first-round pick in a decent cornerback market, but if some teams are seeing him as a safety, it’s unlikely he’ll go in the first round unless one team falls in love with him as a legitimate corner.
