Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the NFL right now, and some believe he has the potential to be the greatest of all time once it’s all said and done.
Greatness attracts greatness, and that’s particularly true in sports.
That was evident again on Saturday night when Mahomes linked up with Lionel Messi as the Argentine superstar visited town for Inter Miami’s date with Sporting Kansas City (via Ari Meirov).

Mahomes is part-owner of the MLS side, and he was in attendance during his team’s loss to the former Barcelona star’s squad.
Messi is widely considered to be the greatest soccer player ever, with Cristiano Ronaldo as the only legitimate competitor, at least in modern times.
His arrival in MLS has sent U.S. soccer fans into a frenzy, and it could end up having a massive impact on the growth and development of the league, both in terms of competition and marketing.
He’s obviously on the backend of his career, but he’s still one of the most prominent players on Earth, and it’s been more common to see celebrities and athletes attending these games to watch him play.
Likewise, Mahomes is setting the bar higher and higher every year in the league.
Even in arguably the most talented era of quarterbacks in football history, he stands on a tier of his own, and he’s already put together a Hall-of-Fame resume despite not even being 29 years old yet.
Perhaps, once it’s all said and done, he’ll be known as the Messi of the NFL.
