It has been a tumultuous past few months for the Boston Red Sox after a disappointing offseason led to a surprisingly hot 7-3 start that was marred by the early season-ending shoulder injury suffered by star shortstop Trevor Story, but one early bright spot has been the continued improvement of first baseman Triston Casas.
Casas shined in the second half as a rookie and after a rough first few games has turned it on again this year to pick up right where he left off in 2023.
FTN Fantasy’s Eric Cross shared some stats on Twitter highlighting just how good Casas has been since last year’s All-Star break, pointing out that Casas is 18th in the league in batting average, 10th in on-base percentage, 8th in slugging percentage, 15th in walk percentage, and 6th in at-bats per home run.
Triston Casas’ MLB ranks among qualified hitters since the 2023 All-Star Break.
AVG: 18th | OBP: 10th | SLG: 8th

Much of it has gone unnoticed since the Red Sox were a last-place team in a crowded AL East last season and have an uphill battle again to compete this year, but Casas is establishing himself as one of the best power hitters in the league.
Casas went just 1-for-15 in Boston’s opening 4-game set in Seattle against the Mariners but has since put up a .977 OPS.
The hulking first baseman now finds himself batting cleanup for the Sox and could start seeing even more pitchers work around him with Story out and star third baseman Rafael Devers nursing a nagging shoulder injury of his own.
At just 24 years old, Casas is putting the league on notice.
Keep an eye out to see if he can make a run toward his first All-Star Game.
