The San Francisco 49ers had a great 2023 NFL season where they were the best team in the NFC, but unfortunately fell short again in the Super Bowl.
The 49ers lost in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs, marking the second time they lost to them with a double-digit lead.
San Francisco has enough talent, depth, and experience to win at the highest levels but they seem to be running into the same late-game issues that have plagued Kyle Shanahan for years.
Going into the 2024 NFL season, San Francisco is expected to be in the inner circle of contenders, but the looming question in the offseason is what they do about Brandon Aiyuk.
Aiyuk is a rising star in the league and took on more offensive responsibility in 2023, a good time for him to do so because he’s eligible for a contract extension.
Without a new deal in place, reports began to surface that Aiyuk requested a trade but his agent Ryan Williams denied that’s the case via his personal Twitter account.
“You need better sources,” Williams tweeted, as shared by Mike Garafolo.

Aiyuk has sent out some cryptic messages via his social media accounts, but there’s been no formal trade request made to this point.
It would be in the 49ers’ best interest to re-sign the wide receiver because he’s gotten better each year and appears poised to break out next year.
San Francisco is rich in offensive talent because they have Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey but none of them bring the same level of route running and speed downfield that Aiyuk does.
