With wins in three of their first four games, the Dallas Cowboys were viewed by many as one of the top contenders in the NFC following the first quarter of the 2023 NFL season.
But then came a Week 5 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers in which the Cowboys were handed an embarrassing 42-10 loss.
After the game, Dallas star pass rusher Micah Parsons tried to downplay the result of the contest and claim that Dallas is still the same caliber of team that the 49ers currently are, regardless of the score from this past Sunday.
Former NFL All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman recently disagreed with Parsons’ reaction to the Cowboys’ latest loss.
“Don’t sit there and fool yourself and say the score doesn’t show [the Cowboys’ skill level]. The tape shows it. The tape shows you were not a factor.”

As a former NFL player and a team leader when he was in the league, Sherman’s advice to Parsons after a game like the one Dallas had last weekend was just to keep it simple and say the 49ers were the better team that day and the Cowboys will use it as a learning opportunity moving forward.
It’s great for Parsons to feel confident about his abilities and the talent inside the Dallas locker room.
But the Cowboys didn’t just get back last Sunday, San Francisco wiped the floor with them.
Whether it was a flukey performance or not, the final score and the film say that the 49ers were clearly the better team out on the field than Dallas in Week 5.
After the loss to San Francisco, the Cowboys are now sitting with a 3-2 record this season, and on their schedule for Week 6 is a Monday-night matchup on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
