The Cleveland Browns have one of the best defenses in the game right now, and that’s going to continue being the case for as long as Jim Schwartz is there.
Nonetheless, one of their most valuable players could be on his way out.
Ever since the end of the season, there have been multiple trade rumors surrounding former first-round pick Greg Newsome II.
However, the star cornerback claims that, as much as he’s aware of the rumors, he’s not losing any sleep because of them and won’t pay attention to any of the outside noise (via Around the NFL):
“I don’t pay attention, but obviously my family and stuff tell me and ask me,” Newsome told Camryn Justice of WEWS Cleveland. “What goes through my head is nothing. I feel like I’m comfortable here. I feel like AB (general manager Andrew Berry) and, the ownership and all my coaches know what I’m capable of.

The Browns have already signed fellow cornerback Denzel Ward to a big-money deal, so they could look to move on from Newsome to spend more money in other areas.
Also, he hasn’t been particularly happy with his role, as he’s been lined up in the slot for the most part, and that usually translates into less money in free agency.
The Browns have until May 2 to make a decision about his fifth-year option, and there should be plenty of teams interested in making a move for the former first-round pick.
The 2024 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and that event always sets the table for multiple players to be on the move.
For now, however, Newsome will continue to handle himself like a professional and just get ready for the start of the upcoming campaign.
Whether he starts — and finishes — the year in Berea or somewhere else remains to be seen.
