The NFL seems to be in a good place these days, but there are plenty of people who don’t like the current product the league has to offer.
According to them, the game is too soft, quarterbacks are too protected, and it is too hard for defensive backs to defend opposing wide receivers, among other things.
Those people now will have something new to complain about: the NFL’s new ban on hip-drop tackles.
Former Indianapolis Colts star pass rusher Dwight Freeney said that if he were playing today, he would simply continue to perform hip-drop tackles and pay the resulting fine, per “All Facts No Brakes.”

With the light that has been shed on the number of NFL players who end up developing CTE, not to mention other injuries, the league has tried to make the game safer as a result.
A number of players have suffered serious injuries directly as a result of being tackled using the hip-drop method, which is presumably why the league has passed this new rule banning that method.
Critics say it will result in certain skill players becoming nearly unguardable right away and that it will have a drastic effect on the game.
For much of Freeney’s career, the game was a little rougher, and he took advantage by recording 125.5 sacks and 47 forced fumbles during his 16 years in the NFL.
He was named to the Pro Bowl seven times, and he won a Super Bowl ring during the 2006 season when the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears.
