The next era of the Los Angeles Chargers franchise is finally here as the team will walk into training camp and the 2024 NFL season with a new regime.
New general manager Joe Hortiz cleaned up the roster in the offseason by parting ways with several long-time veterans, but the biggest move for the Chargers came off the field as they lured away Jim Harbaugh from Michigan to become their new head coach.
Harbaugh was the hottest name in the hiring cycle and he heads to Los Angeles where he’ll get a chance to reimagine the team in his image.
Harbaugh values tough, physical players and is expected to run the team similar to his program at Michigan that featured a stout defense and heavy run game.
He’s already made some changes in the locker room as he recently rearranged the lockers to be numerical and even displayed the players’ high school recruiting levels.
Cam Newton took note of the move and praised Harbaugh via the 4thand1show.
“Man’s got an edge to him. I don’t know what the edge is, but that’s something cool,” Newton said. “We all ended up at the same place, no matter whether you were a no-star, or an all-star. We here now!”

Harbaugh seems to be telling his players that nothing about their past matters and that they’re together under the same team.
It’s quite a creative and motivational tactic and something that players can appreciate hearing from their head coach.
Los Angeles might struggle in Harbuagh’s first year, but the team is definitely heading in the right direction.
