It’s been years since we last saw an NFL Draft so stacked at the quarterback position.
Some expect as many as six quarterbacks to be taken in the first round, and that wouldn’t be that much of a surprise, given how many talented players and quarterback-needy teams there are right now.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Ben Volin shared his prediction about the first round, and it was rather surprising (via The Purple Persuasion).
Unlike most people, he doesn’t expect the third quarterback to be taken until No. 5.
He believes the fourth will be taken close to the No. 10 pick, with Bo Nix being the fifth quarterback taken and going somewhere in the teens and Michael Penix Jr. going late in the first round or early in the second.
“This year, there’s a realistic scenario where the third quarterback doesn’t go until No. 5, and the next one goes somewhere around the 10th pick. I then expect Bo Nix to be drafted somewhere in the teens, and Michael Penix somewhere in the late-first or early-second round.”… pic.twitter.com/L100rBeX6a

This is a bit of a surprise, as most mock drafts have Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye going first, second, and third, respectively.
In this scenario, however, either the Washington Commanders or New England Patriots wouldn’t take a quarterback, and the Los Angeles Chargers would most likely trade down to allow another team to get either Daniels or Maye.
Also, that would mean that J.J. McCarthy would fall a little further, with teams like the New York Giants having a chance to get him.
As for the others, Nix has always been projected to be a mid-first-round pick, and Penix has been a polarizing figure because of his age and injury concerns, so that prediction might be right on point was well.
