The New England Patriots are in a privileged position right now.
Worst case scenario, they’ll pick the guy they want at No. 3.
They’re reportedly keeping tabs on UNC QB Drake Maye, and while they’re open for business and could trade back from that, it would take a significant haul for them to pull the trigger.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Adam Schefter reveals that, should the Washington Commanders take Maye instead, the price of their No. 3 selection would go significantly up (via Los Pats Talks).
.@AdamSchefter says the price to trade with the #Patriots for No. 3 “goes up a lot” if Jayden Daniels is available:
“New England’s gonna listen to teams that call. The two teams… most active calling up to number three have been the Minnesota Vikings… New York Giants. Those are… pic.twitter.com/bpVKCpIkkq

Talking on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter explained that their pick would become significantly more valuable if Jayden Daniels somehow became available at No. 3.
As of now, the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are the two teams more aggressively pursuing their pick, but many more teams could get involved if Daniels is available by the time they’re on the clock.
Even so, Schefter explained that he still believes that the Patriots will hold onto their pick and get themselves a new quarterback at No. 3.
However, if a team is willing to overpay and give them a major haul of draft assets, they could change their minds.
Daniels has been projected to be the No. 2 pick for most of the pre-draft process, and it’s hard to think that the Commanders would pass on him.
Then again, we’ve seen crazier things happen in the past, and with the rumors of Daniels not wanting to play for the Commanders, perhaps we could be in for a major surprise on Thursday evening.
