The Las Vegas Raiders need a new quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo was never a realistic solution for them, and replacing him with Gardner Minshew might not give them much of a chance to compete in the AFC West.
Also, Aidan O’Connell didn’t show much in his limited action behind center.
That’s why Dan Orlovsky believes Antonio Pierce could take a big risk in this edition of the NFL Draft by taking Michael Penix Jr.
Talking on ESPN, he claimed that Penix Jr. can throw the football like the best of them when he’s got a clean pocket, comparing him to Jared Goff in that regard.
I could see the @Raiders making Penix a Black and Silver https://t.co/E3R3lNT2AD

Nonetheless, he also believes Penix has a stronger arm.
Truth be told, there’s a lot to like about Penix and his tape.
The arm talent is evident, and he proved that he could be an efficient volume passer and make every single throw at all levels.
The obvious red flags are his age and his long history of injuries, as he missed plenty of time with diverse ailments.
The Washington Huskies brought the best out of him by keeping him in the pocket and making sure he stayed safe and sound, but he can also pick up yards with his feet if needed.
Some project him to be a late first-round pick or early-second-round selection because of the negatives, but most scouts agree that he’s as talented as the top-tier prospects in this class, so he might be worth the risk for a team like the Raiders.
