The New England Patriots will forever be tied to Tom Brady; that’s just a fact.
Brady led them to the mountaintop six times and helped them make nine Super Bowl appearances in two decades.
That unprecedented level of success made Patriots fans and executives get used to a certain standard, and that’s one that they haven’t been able to abide by since he walked away.
That’s why Robert Kraft doesn’t want the team to mess things up again in the NFL Draft.
According to a report by Todd McShay, Kraft has urged the team not to leave the first round without a new quarterback (via The Purple Persuasion).
“Robert Kraft will not allow this 1st-round to go without a QB” says @McShay13
He goes on to say that that he does not believe the #Patriots trade out of pick No. 3, but if they happen too, they would need assurance from a 3rd team they can trade back up for a top QB. pic.twitter.com/oBYuREtvyG

So, even if the Patriots trade down from No. 3, Kraft would only allow that to happen if they can get assurance from another team that they will be able to trade back up to get one of the top-tier quarterbacks of the class.
The Patriots have been projected to get UNC star Drake Maye for most of the pre-draft process, but they’ve also let it be known that, for the right price, they could consider moving on from him and going after someone else.
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are reportedly trying to climb to No. 3 and have been very aggressive in their pursuit of that selection.
That would leave the Patriots with J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, or Michael Penix Jr. as their go-to guy in the first-round, and while that could be considered a bit of a drop-off, they better not get on Kraft’s wrong side.
