When Kirk Cousins joined the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, it was a sign that the Minnesota Vikings had to move on at the position.
Cousins was well-liked within the organization, and while he never brought the team on a substantial playoff run, he did provide stability at the quarterback position.
Once he was gone, the Vikings had to go back to the drawing board, hoping to adequately replace him, hoping to find someone who could help them take that next step.
There were rumors that the Vikings were going to draft a quarterback, which ended up coming true on draft night.
They selected J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick, trading up one spot with the New York Jets to make this happen.
McCarthy could help turn this franchise around, and based on a recent video shared by The Purple Persuasion on Twitter, he seems more than ready to take on this challenge.
This clip shows the Vikings GM calling McCarthy, and you can hear McCarthy saying, “I promised you we’re going to win.”

This could have been a selling point for the Vikings’ coaching staff and front office, as McCarthy does have a proven track record as a winner.
He is fresh off a National Championship with the University of Michigan, and if he can bring that same energy to the Vikings, the team could be in great hands for the foreseeable future.
While adding McCarthy is certainly a step in the right direction, the Vikings will now have to turn their attention to Justin Jefferson, hoping to lock down a pass-catcher for their newest QB.
