The Las Vegas Raiders were a difficult team to read heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.
They are in need of a bonafide starting quarterback, especially after Jimmy Garoppolo’s recent release.
Many anticipated them to be in the market for a player like Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr., potentially moving up to draft a quarterback.
However, when all of the highly-touted quarterbacks went off the board earlier than expected, the Raiders had to pivot.
They turned to Brock Bowers, the top tight end prospect in this year’s class.
Bowers was commonly mocked to the New York Jets in the pre-draft process, but he ended up falling to pick 13, where the Raiders happily scooped him up.
Skip Bayless commented on this shortly after the selection, indicating how positive of a move this was for the Raiders.
He said, “Antonio Pierce just got himself another baller. What a steal… Brock Bowers at 13!!!”
ANTONIO PIERCE JUST GOT HIMSELF ANOTHER BALLER. WHAT A STEAL … BROCK BOWERS AT 13!!! NO QB YET. BUT NO MATTER THE NEED … YOU JUST CANNOT PASS UP BROCK BOWERS AT 13. CONGRATS, RAIDER NATION.

Pierce was named the full-time head coach in the offseason after gaining the respect of the locker room as the team’s interim.
He seems to be interested in changing the culture of the Raiders organization, hoping to bring them to greater success in the years to come.
Adding a player of Bowers’ caliber can certainly help them accomplish their goals, but they will need additional pieces to gain any traction in the AFC West, especially.
Bowers might be a talented prospect, and there might be other talented skill-position players on the roster, but without the right quarterback throwing them the ball, these efforts could be for naught.
