A few big-name former NFL legends had the honor of seeing their sons selected in the NFL Draft this weekend, including Marvin Harrison, Jerry Rice, Jeremiah Trotter, Ed McCaffrey, and more.
One legend who unfortunately didn’t get to hear his son’s name called is Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens, though his son Terique did get a chance to sign with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent.
CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson spoke with Owens about his son and the legend expressed his gratitude for his former team signing his son, saying “I’m proud of him. All we ever asked for is an opportunity. He’s wanted to make his own name and carve his own path to get to where he is. We would’ve loved to have gotten drafted, but he’s got his foot in the door.”

Owens added that his son just needs to “be himself” and highlighted how Terique didn’t play a ton of snaps until his senior year and that he is just as good as the other receivers who got drafted, but hasn’t played enough football yet to prove what he is capable of.
Terique played at Florida Atlantic before transferring to Missouri State where he caught 28 passes for 528 yards last season.
It will be a tough wide receiver room for Owens to crack, with Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall, the rookie out of Florida who the Niners just took in the first round of the draft.
It’s great to see Terique get his NFL start in the same place as his father, and let’s hope he can make some noise in camp.
