The Minnesota Vikings finally have their quarterback, or so they hope.
The jury is still out on JJ. McCarthy, and whether he’s going to start right away or sit behind Sam Darnold at first remains to be seen.
Whatever the case, that’s no longer the biggest storyline in the Twin Cities.
Justin Jefferson’s contract situation continues to loom large, and while the front office has repeatedly stated that they want to do right by him and have absolutely no intention to trade him, the clock keeps ticking.
With that in mind, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport took to the GoJo and Golic show to address that situation.
Per Rapoport, Jefferson shouldn’t be viewed as a wide receiver but as a great player.
With that in mind, he wouldn’t be shocked to see that he’s shooting to become the highest-paid non-quarterback player in the league.
He adds that the Vikings are most definitely trying to get a deal done sooner rather than later, and they can afford to give Jefferson that kind of mammoth deal because they’re going to have their franchise quarterback on a rookie contract.

Jefferson has put up video game-like numbers since he entered the league, and he has a case for being the best wide receiver in the game.
Also, he hasn’t missed much time with injuries, with last season being the only in which he had to be on the shelf for a while.
And with the way wide receivers are getting paid nowadays, the Vikings will have to break the bank if they want him to stay around.
