After the NFL Draft takes place, pundits try to discuss the idea of what could have happened at certain picks for a number of teams.
One of the teams that was talked about an awful lot in the pre-draft process in regard to what they might do with their top-5 pick was the Washington Commanders.
Of course, they ended up selecting LSU Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington was either going to choose Daniels or Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy with that pick.
“The two quarterbacks they had in consideration at two were Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy,” Schefter told “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday.
“Drake Maye was never gonna go to the Commanders at two..

McCarthy ended up getting selected by the Minnesota Vikings at pick No. 10 overall after the Vikings traded up from No. 11 overall to get him.
But, it always felt like the Commanders were going to take Daniels after the Chicago Bears took USC’s Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick.
Now, head coach Dan Quinn has his quarterback of the present and future.
This selection comes after the Commanders added free-agent veterans in former Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, all-purpose running back Austin Ekeler, Super Bowl champion guard Nick Allegretti, and former Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz.
Not to mention the fact that Daniels will have a Pro Bowl receiver in Terry McLaurin at his disposal as he starts his NFL career.
Look for Washington to be a sleeper team in the NFC East in 2024 simply because nobody knows what they will be.
