Brock Purdy’s rise to becoming the San Francisco 49ers‘ starting quarterback continues to make headlines.
While he had an unlikely road to success, Purdy has continued to lead the 49ers as one of the NFL’s top teams.
Peter Schrager recently appeared on the NFL on FOX podcast, discussing the Purdy effect on the 49ers.
He eventually called Purdy an MVP candidate, saying, “He’s the one who has Kyle Shanahan’s offense playing at a level we have never seen before.”

The 49ers have been known to have one of the NFL’s best defenses under Shanahan.
He is widely viewed as a defensive guru, and his defenses have often carried his teams into the playoffs.
Through five weeks of the 2023 season, the 49ers offense has been as good, if not better than their defensive output.
Under Purdy, the 49ers have the second-most potent offense in the league, trailing only the Miami Dolphins for points scored per game.
As Schager indicates, “Purdy is not even the top three or four guy on the offense.”
Shanahan has surrounded Purdy with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Christian McCaffrey.
With elite options around him, Purdy is in a prime position to succeed.
If he continues on this trajectory, and the 49ers keep winning, Schrager believes Purdy could find himself in the heart of the MVP race.
He is not the only one to hold this belief.
Purdy’s standing in the public eye has skyrocketed as of late, putting the league on notice for him and the 49ers.
