The New York Giants had some history and some of the most iconic defenses in league history before Eli Manning’s arrival.
Manning, who came from NFL royalty and with plenty of praise as the No. 1 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, was supposed to lead them back to the top of the world.
And while it wasn’t easy, and it definitely wasn’t pretty, he actually delivered.
That’s why his former teammate Plaxico Burress insisted on The Carton Show that Manning should be a First-ballot Hall of Famer.

That’s a lot to say for a player who made it to four Pro Bowls in 16 seasons, was never an MVP candidate, and wasn’t even an All-Pro player.
However, Manning did what some players who were objectively better than him never did: He won when it mattered the most.
Eli led the Giants to two Super Bowl wins and over Tom Brady, of all people.
There was even a point in his career in which he had more championship rings than his older brother Peyton, who was considered one of the three greatest quarterbacks of all time.
That’s why Manning’s Hall of Fame case will always be a controversial debate.
He has some valid arguments, yet his career numbers aren’t all that impressive, and he was never someone who would blow you away or single-handedly beat you when he was in his prime.
Perhaps the truth is somewhere in between and he should be inducted, but definitely not as a first-ballot kind of guy.
