The Buffalo Bills desperately needed a wide receiver, and while they didn’t get one in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, they addressed that need as soon as Day 2 of the festivities got underway.
The Bills tested their fans’ patience by trading down.
Clearly, GM Brandon Beane had a plan and multiple options to choose from, which is why it seems like Keon Coleman was the guy they wanted all along.
At least, he was the guy Josh Allen wanted.
Recently, Beane revealed that Allen was very involved in the draft process, adding that he absolutely loved the fact that they got their hands on the Florida State wideout (via Around the NFL):
“Josh is crazy about the draft process. He loves it,” Beane said. “If I get a call from Josh in the offseason, it’s usually him seeing somebody on a highlight, running into somebody, throwing with somebody — just something to ask me what I think about this guy. He called me at the Senior Bowl (asking) what do I think about a couple of guys there. So he loves it.

Coleman has a big body and has a knack for making spectacular and tough catches.
He excels at operating in tight spaces, and he can manhandle his way down the field with his physicality and strong build, even if he’s about to go against actual professionals now.
He’s not exactly great at creating separation from defensive backs, but Allen has one of the strongest arms in the game, and he knows how to fit the pigskin in tight windows, so they could be in for a strong partnership.
The Bills didn’t have a clear-cut WR1 after Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis walked away.
And while demanding that much from a first-year wide receiver could set fans up for disappointment, the Bills were clearly high on Coleman from the beginning of the process.
