Phil Simms has been a part of NFL broadcasts for decades.
That’s why people were shocked to hear that he wouldn’t come back for the upcoming campaign.
However, according to a recent interview with Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, it wasn’t shocking to him at all.
He claimed that they were always looking for the next guy, and that’s just the way things go in that line of business.
EXCLUSIVE: Phil Simms is gone from CBS Sports—but he says the move didn’t come as a surprise.
“Like people say, they’re always looking for the next person… I understand that.”@PhilSimmsQB opened up about his departure and his future with @MMcCarthyREV

The former New York Giants star will now be replaced by former NFL MVP Matt Ryan, and Boomer Esiason will also be out.
We’re entering a new era in sports broadcasting.
We’ve seen it with shows like the ManningCast or, more recently, with the NFL Draft alternate broadcast featuring Pat McAfee.
Simms is one of the most beloved and respected figures in the business, and it shouldn’t take long before someone else gives him another opportunity to keep doing what he does best.
Still, this ever-changing landscape for sports broadcasts will make it harder for veterans to stay relevant and hold onto their jobs, especially those who are making a lot of money and have built a long and successful career.
Of course, this is not a diss to Matt Ryan whatsoever, as he’s also earned his stripes and has done a fantastic job since he left the gridiron to join the broadcast booth.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to build an everlasting partnership with the network just like Simms did before him, and Simms will continue to share his input with the fans somewhere else.
