The Arizona Diamondbacks not only eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers from the 2023 playoffs: they swept them, they limited their offense, and they hit home runs almost at will against them.
It was a lopsided series, but in favor of the “underdog.”
On Wednesday, the D-Backs won, 4-2, to punch their ticket to their first National League Championship Series since 2007.
You may not believe it, but all four runs came on solo home runs.
Oh, and they all came in the same inning: the third.
“Count ’em! The @Dbacks are the first team in MLB history to hit FOUR homers in a single #Postseason inning!” MLB tweeted on Wednesday night.

The game began with no run-scoring events for the first two innings.
Then, in the third, it became evident that the Diamondbacks had figured out Dodgers starter Lance Lynn.
Geraldo Perdomo opened the inning with a home run.
After Corbin Carroll grounded out, Ketel Marte belted another long ball off Lynn.
At this point, you have to wonder if manager Dave Roberts would have been better off pulling the plug on Lynn and bringing in his bullpen.
He didn’t.
Tommy Pham grounded out, but Christian Walker and Gabriel Moreno hit back-to-back dingers to put the game at 4-0.
Roberts called upon Caleb Ferguson to stop the bleeding, and he did, but it was too late: the Dodgers, who had severe issues scoring runs all series, were in an 0-4 hole.
That’s everything the D-Backs needed to win, even despite LA scoring two runs in the top of the seventh.
Now, the 84-78 Diamondbacks are moving on to face the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies – Atlanta Braves matchup in the National League Championship Series, and the 100-62 Dodgers are going home empty-handed.
