The New York Jets made a move or two at the running back position in the NFL Draft by selecting All-Big Ten Wisconsin back Braelon Allen and South Dakota State’s Isaiah Davis.
However, that doesn’t mean those backs will be challenging bell-cow back Breece Hall for the starting role anytime soon.
Head coach Robert Saleh talked about this with the New York media on Friday.
“You can only give these guys the ball so much..You have to have extra guys…Breece is the unquestioned bell-cow, but even then you’re still talking 20-25 touches,” Saleh said, via Paul Andrew Esden Jr.
Despite adding multiple running backs this offseason #Jets HC Robert Saleh made it clear that @BreeceH is the ‘unquestioned bell-cow.’
Saleh said the plan is 20-25 touches per game + he added that the bell-cows nowadays in the #NFL don’t get 30+ touches ‘like it used to be.’… pic.twitter.com/qVAKN3GuJS

There is no question that Saleh is right in stating that Hall is the No.1 running back.
The would’ve-been Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 burst onto the scene before tearing his ACL after just seven games.
In 2023, Hall followed up with a remarkable all-purpose season as an NFL sophomore.
He recorded almost 1,600 scrimmage yards and 9 total touchdowns.
Now, the former Iowa State star is hoping to have another career year for Gang Green.
The addition of Allen and the depth that Izzy Abanikanda and Isaiah Davis will bring should make this group quite deep.
Allen and Abanikanda will be the ones to spell Hall when he needs to take a breather.
If New York decides to lean on the run game with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers also at their disposal, along with their elite defense, they should be a playoff team at minimum this upcoming season.
Depth is always a nice, little gift that a team may possess, but that should not take away from Hall being the clear-cut No.1 running back.
