In the game of football, it is uncommon for a player to change positions once he has made it to the NFL.
It does occasionally happen, but usually, it is a minor switch — an outside linebacker switching to defensive end, or a cornerback moving to safety, for instance.
But Green Bay Packers reserve quarterback Alex McGough is making a major positional change — he will be playing wide receiver from now on, per ProFootballTalk.

McGough was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft after four seasons at Florida International University, and while he has been a member of four different NFL teams, he has yet to play in a regular season game.
However, he has excelled in a different pro football league — the United States Football League.
As a member of the Birmingham Stallions, he led his team to the league championship during the 2022 season, and the following year, he won league MVP honors.
The USFL has since merged with the XFL to form the United Football League (UFL), and right before that merger, McGough returned to the NFL to be a backup QB for the Packers.
The Packers have a promising group of emerging wide receivers, which includes Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson and Jayden Reed.
They had traded away franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers last offseason, leading many to predict they would miss the playoff in 2023, but instead, they won six of their last eight regular season games and snagged a wild-card spot.
In the wild-card round of the playoffs, they routed the Dallas Cowboys on the road, which has led to lots of optimism for the immediate future.
