For two decades, the New England Patriots were the team to beat in the National Football League, and they laid the blueprint for what a winning organization looked like.
Of course, there were ups and downs, and some opposing fans will never respect what they did because of some of the things that went down.
However, despite all that, no one could deny the fact that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady had the league in a chokehold.
That’s why when Brady left, there was a debate about whether he was responsible for the dynasty, just a byproduct of Belichick’s coaching, or vice versa.
With that in mind, Belichick made sure to let everybody know his thoughts about it during Brady’s roast, claiming that both of them deserve the credit but adding that it was still because of him (via Mike Reiss).
“For all of you out there that think about who’s responsible for the Patriots’ success during the time Tom and I were there. Was it Brady? Was it me? Was it Brady? Was it me? In reality, the truth of the matter is it was both of us —because of me.” -Bill Belichick, all-time roast https://t.co/l8auWGLnQ7 pic.twitter.com/2NRL01UHF2

That’s valid, as he was the one who took a chance on Brady despite having Drew Bledsoe on a big contract and back to full strength.
Then again, his record without Brady is fairly mediocre, while Brady went on to win another Super Bowl as soon as he left Foxborough.
Belichick’s final years with the Patriots kind of stained his resume, and some think they proved Brady was the main reason behind their success.
Still, it’s just impossible to take anything away from a guy like Belichick after all he accomplished in this league.
