One of the quietly brilliant coaching hires this offseason was the decision by the Washington Commanders to hire former NFL head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator.
Combine that with the offseason additions that this team made, including drafting Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft, and this offense could be dangerous.
Here is what Daniels recently had to say about Kingsbury’s offense on the “All Facts No Brakes” podcast, via Around The NFL.
“We’re not gonna air the ball out 50 times a game…You’ve got to have balance…Kliff is open-minded…I like his scheme, honestly. It suits me,” Daniels said.

The Commanders could be a surprise team this year, which is definitely because of what this offense can be.
With Daniels’ running abilities (22 total rushing touchdowns between 2022 and 2023 at LSU) and the abilities of all-purpose backs Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr., Washington will be a very good team on the ground.
Through the air, Daniels will have other veteran pass-catchers at his disposal in 1,000-yard receiver Terry McLaurin, former Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, and other receivers in Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheus.
Kingsbury will definitely be able to work his magic with this group of players.
Yes, they might be both raw and a little older, but that talent combined with that experience could be huge for the future of the team.
That’s why it will be fascinating to watch Daniels and a player like Ertz, who is 10 years old than him, form a connection.
But the hiring of the former playoff coach in Kingsbury was a good move by head coach Dan Quinn.
