The New England Patriots surprised nobody by selecting North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and turning to him to be the franchise’s new savior after the Mac Jones era crashed and burned last season and he was shipped to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.
There were some pre-draft concerns about Maye that had many wondering if New England would trade down from No. 3, but Maye’s new teammates are already speaking highly of him.
Analyst Mike Kadlick shared that rookie 4th-round pick Layden Robinson had a succinct message about his new quarterback, saying “he’s a leader.”

Maye’s talent is undeniable, as he has the big arm and mobility that drew a lot of comparisons to Josh Allen and had scouts salivating about the kind of quarterback he could be at the next level.
The intangibles are something we’ll have to learn more about from Maye, and it’s a great sign that his new rookie teammates are already praising his leadership abilities.
This franchise needs it after going through so much change in recent years and failing to gain any traction following Tom Brady’s exodus to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and subsequent retirement.
Maye will likely start right away and will have veteran Jacoby Brissett to help him navigate the process of leading this team.
Jones never seemed to have a great hold on the locker room and his lifeless offense needed a change.
We all can’t wait to see what Maye can do in this new era of Patriots football.
