The Dallas Cowboys have not had a particularly noteworthy offseason after going through a quiet free agency period and taking a workmanlike approach in the draft by focusing on beefing up the trenches.
One exciting move the team made was bringing back Ezekiel Elliott to rejoin the running back room after a year away with the New England Patriots, and head coach Mike McCarthy has now shared an update about what Zeke’s role with the team will be.
The Coachspeak Index shared a post on X that showed a clip from McCarthy’s recent press conference amidst rookie minicamp and fielded questions from reporters just as every other coach has been doing over the past week, and he said “we’re running back by committee” when asked about what the running back room will look like.

This announcement isn’t surprising to anybody, as Zeke is not built to be a workhorse anymore at this point in his career, though it is fun to remember the beast he was early in his Cowboys tenure and get excited about the prospect of him doing that again.
Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are the other notable members of the running back room and figure to be the ones splitting time with Elliott.
There are a lot of available touches after the departure of Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, and it would be fun to see Zeke dial back the clock and start churning out yards like 2016 Zeke again.
