The Kansas City Chiefs had a few questions to answer heading into their game against the Denver Broncos.
One of their major questions revolved around the health of Travis Kelce, who was questionable before the game.
Kelce not only played the entire game, but he was the focal point of their offense.
As James Palmer of the NFL Network shared, Kelce led the Chiefs in receptions, targets, and receiving yards.
Travis Kelce led the Chiefs in targets (9), rec (9), and rec yards (124) tonight.
– Kelce’s most rec yards in a game in 2023
– 2nd career game with 100+ rec yards in 1st half (other: Wk 16, 2016 vs DEN)
– Week 6 was his 6th career game vs DEN w/ 100+ rec yards (T-most all-time)— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) October 13, 2023
This was Kelce’s second time in his career with over 100 yards in the first half, as Palmer also mentions.
The other time was a game against Denver in 2016.
Palmer also showcased Kelce’s career history with Denver, as this was his sixth time against the Broncos with more than 100 receiving yards.
The Chiefs seemed to have a game plan on offense, and they stuck to that plan throughout the game.
Feeding Kelce the ball seemed to do the trick to get Patrick Mahomes back on track, who has struggled in the past few weeks.
Throughout his tenure with the Chiefs, Kelce has been a safety valve for the quarterback responsible for throwing him the ball.
That was on full display against the Broncos, a team he continues to dominate throughout his career.
While Kelce’s health was certainly needed for this game, he will need to stay healthy for the Chiefs to stay on their current trajectory.
The offense flows best when he is on the field, and Mahomes tends to struggle without him, given the Chiefs’ lack of other receiving help.
