The Denver Broncos had an opportunity to score their second victory in the 2023 NFL season.
However, the Kansas City Chiefs stood in their way.
If the Broncos stood any chance of defeating the Chiefs, they needed big games from skill position players, especially wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
But the former Alabama standout caught the ire of former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith, who was part of the NFL Network broadcast crew.
Smith did not hold back on his opinion of Jeudy before the game.
“I’m sorry that I said you were a J.A.G., just a guy, who’s an average wide receiver they used a first-round pick on that isn’t doing anything. I hope today that you actually show up in a way that you haven’t showed up in the last couple of years since they drafted you.”
“So, if you’ve got any problem with Agent 89, I’m sorry for saying that you’re an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on and when teams call me and ask should they trade for you. I would say no, don’t trade for Jerry Jeudy.”

For full context, Smith criticized Jeudy on his podcast for not playing at a level worthy of being a first-rounder.
Smith tried to apologize before the game, but Jeudy said some swear words to the 16-year NFL veteran.
Hence, Smith took back his apology and doubled down on his perception of Jeudy.
