Some great news recently came to Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans all over.
The franchise has finally locked up veteran safety Antoine Winfield Jr.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Ari Meirov), Tampa Bay has agreed to terms on a four-year extension worth $84 million for the All-Pro safety.
He is now the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

After getting selected by Tampa Bay in the second round back in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Minnesota, Winfield would immediately leap onto the scene.
As a rookie, he recorded 94 total tackles and 3.0 sacks en route to helping the franchise win its second-ever Super Bowl.
He would make his first Pro Bowl in 2021 and two years later, he would be named a First-team All-Pro after recording a career-high 122 tackles, 6.0 sacks, and a league-leading 6 forced fumbles.
Simply put, he is one of the best defensive backs in football and a clear cornerstone piece of Todd Bowles’ defense down in Tampa Bay.
Winfield, defensive tackle Vita Vea, and linebacker Lavonte David are the three Pro Bowl defenders in Tampa Bay currently.
Those defenders, along with quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and left tackle Tristan Wirfs are the key pieces that make the Bucs contenders in the NFC South.
With Winfield back in the fold for the foreseeable future, the Bucs defense, especially the backend, should be one of the best units in the entire National Football League.
After making the playoffs and beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card round, pundits and fans should be careful not to doubt Tampa.
