After the Los Angeles Rams sent former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, the consensus was that the young quarterback would never be heard from again in terms of competing in the postseason in the NFL.
Ironically enough, the Goff-for-Stafford trade was one of the few times where a deal worked out for both franchises involved, as the Rams were able to go on to win a Super Bowl title with Stafford under center while the Lions have been a team on the rise with Goff at the helm under center.
Neither team regrets making the blockbuster trade, especially when it comes to the players. Goff gets a much-needed fresh start in Detroit, and Stafford finally gets to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Los Angeles.
With Goff coming one win away from reaching the Super Bowl last season, the Lions felt it was time to reward him with a contract extension, with the team signing the 29-year-old to a four-year deal with $170 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With Goff under contract for the foreseeable future, the team will have some high expectations coming into the 2024 NFL season after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Lions can continue their meteoric rise during the 2024 campaign, and no opponent will be taking them lightly anymore, with Detroit potentially being a legitimate Super Bowl title contender right out of the gate in Week 1.
