The Denver Broncos needed a new quarterback to start the Sean Payton era once and for all, and they found one in the NFL Draft.
Some thought that getting Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick was a bit of a reach, and some saw him as the worst among the top-six quarterbacks taken in the first round.
Even so, it seems like Payton and the Broncos’ brass were always high on him.
They reportedly even tried to leak info about their interest in J.J. McCarthy to divert attention from the fact that Nix was their guy all along.
Now, with rookie minicamp in the rearview mirror, Broncos insider Zac Stevens has some great news about the Oregon product.
Talking on the DNVR Broncos podcast, Stevens claimed to be very impressed with Nix, going as far as to say that if someone had told him he was the first quarterback taken in the NFL Draft, he wouldn’t have much trouble believing it.
“I really am blown away… You could have told me he was the No. 1 quarterback drafted and I would have said ‘Yep, he lived up to it.'”

He raved about the way he’s gotten a grasp of Sean Payton’s offense, adding that he truly felt like he’s been very good and wasn’t just trying to get the fans hyped up.
Sometimes, it’s all about the fit and the system, and that could be the case here.
You don’t always have to be the best or flashiest to have the best career, and while it’s still early and the Broncos still have plenty of issues to address, this is definitely an encouraging sign of what’s to come.
