2023 No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes ascended through the minors in record time and made his major league debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates a few days ago, going four innings and giving up three runs with seven strikeouts.
As fans begin to learn more about the star pitcher, we have recently learned that he shares an interesting similarity with Michael Scott, the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Regional Manager in The Office.
Skenes appeared on The Pat McAfee Show today to discuss all things baseball, and he shared what his pregame meal is, telling the crew “I eat chicken alfredo before every start” and acknowledged that he “got some crap from some of the guys on Saturday for it but that’s just what I do.”

His teammates joked around and told him “they wouldn’t even make it out to pitch” if they ate that before a game, but Skenes is built differently.
Michael Scott infamously wolfed down a heaping pile of fettuccine alfredo before running a 5k in the Michael Scott’s Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race For The Cure, though he unfortunately was unable to finish due to stomach issues.
Skenes pointed out that he at least makes sure to eat his chicken alfredo a few hours before he hits the mound, which is a crucial difference, as Scott ate just seconds before beginning the 5k.
Skenes has earned the right to eat what he wants, as clearly things have been working out well for him.
