The Philadelphia Phillies became the first team in baseball to reach 30 wins this season by blanking the New York Mets, 4-0, on Tuesday.
Philadelphia now has a 30-13 record, the best in MLB by a considerable margin.
They are determined to show that they can consistently win in the regular season, too, and that the National League goes way beyond the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Philadelphia won thanks to timely offense and, especially, a brilliant start by ace Aaron Nola.
The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 3.10 by tossing a complete-game shutout.
“Aaron Nola pitches a 3-hit shutout over the Mets, 4-0, the #Phillies 2nd complete-game shutout of the season. It’s the third time this season Nola has pitched at least 8 innings. The Phillies are rolling, 30-13, tying their 2nd-fastest start of the season,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

Nola was in complete control on Tuesday, allowing just four hits all afternoon.
He didn’t even walk anyone, and struck out eight hitters.
The Mets simply had no answer for his stuff and impeccable command.
With the nine frames, Nola took the NL’s lead in innings pitched, at least temporarily.
He is performing admirably for a Phillies team that has virtually no weaknesses.
With the win, Philadelphia now has a 2.5-game cushion over the Braves for the NL East lead.
Only the Dodgers at +76 have a higher run differential than the Phillies’ +67.
It has been a special, brilliant season for Philly and some of their best players aren’t even close to top form yet.
