The Minnesota Vikings have a great problem on their hands right now.
On the one hand, they have Sam Darnold, who’s about to make $10 million next season.
On the other hand, they have his replacement and potentially the face of the franchise for years to come in J.J. McCarthy.
Right now, Darnold seems to have the upper hand to be the starter in Week 1.
However, it shouldn’t take long before the Michigan product takes his spot.
As a matter of fact, former NFL player Louis Riddick believes we’ll see McCarthy take the field “sooner rather than later,” and he wouldn’t be shocked to see that happen in the first half of the season (via The Purple Persuasion).
According to @LRiddickESPN, he thinks J.J. McCarthy starts for the #Vikings “sooner rather than later” and sees him starting “within the first half of the season”

Clark talked about the Vikings having a dream-like situation for any young quarterback.
Not only do they have an elite offensive line and some solid weapons in the passing and running game, but they also have one of the most QB-friendly systems in the league.
He thinks Kevin O’Connell’s system will always give McCarthy options and answers to whatever any defense throws at him, and he wouldn’t be shocked to see him find plenty of success early in his career, even more than other young quarterbacks.
As of now, the Vikings are projected to finish fourth in the NFC North, and it makes sense.
But even if that’s the case, it won’t be long before all four teams are going at it for a postseason berth, just like what happens in the AFC North.
